At Chalk our design methodology is focused on effective and sustained communication with clients all the way through the process from inception to completion and beyond.
This consistent approach aims to resolve the ambitions of the client with the physical, cultural and economic complexities of the brief, into a vibrant and holistic architecture of space, material and light. We combine interior design and architectural skills to provide a one-stop solution for hospitality, residential and education sector clients.
Resisting a house design style, Chalk Architecture delivers a distinct identity to each project. Careful and extensive research into materials and construction methods allow for a long-term view to be taken over the design. Decisions on sustainability are formed within a discourse of common sense and encompass the social and economic longevity of a project.
Architecture/ Urbanism/ Heterotopia
We are particularly interested in exploring the everyday phenomena of space and place, and the spirit of the activities that occur 'en-place'. Whether it is for planning a street-side servery hatch for a commuter's espresso bar, designing a fabric screen to a restaurant seating booth, or detailing waney edged timber cladding to a new house, our designs convey a sense of calm, evoke a memory of place, and balance austerity with wit.
Interior/ Style/ Chora/ Comfort
We focus on the users' sense of spatial pleasure; comfort and visual richness are under-written by a bold, core narrative design. Style is the embodiment of timelessness or timeliness, so with each project come differing temporal and ephemeral needs. Style is in constant flux so understanding the need (or lack of need) for longevity is key to a project's success.
